2008
I now live in Brittany,
but I can’t keep away from Wales! In March this year I was in North Wales for
the week of World
Book Day ~ I visited Ysgol y Foryd, Kinmel Bay, where I told some stories to the
children in the Infants' School; then Ysgol Maes Owen, for some more
stories and a lot of questions; next day I spent in Colwyn Bay Library,
just before it reopened after its refit; there I met children from Ysgol
Pendorlan and Ysgol St Joseph. By the time I'd finished telling them about
writing and answering their questions I was beginning to lose my voice!
Next day I went to Anglesey, where I met children from Ysgol Penysarn and Ysgol
Amlwch. The following day I visited Ysgol y Garreg, Llanfrothen, and was
honoured to be invited to stay for lunch (we had Toad in the Hole with REAL
TOADS!) I spent the afternoon with Ysgol Cefn Coch at Penrhyndeudraeth,
and then drove to Newtown to spend Saturday morning with the Powys Young Writers' Squad.
I spent the afternoon watching Wales win the Triple Crown (and I shouted a lot
and lost some more voice), and then on Monday visited Birchgrove Primary School
in Cardiff, where my Honorary Grandson Kieran is in Reception Class.
My next visit to Wales will be June 2nd
for a week or so. I shall be visiting St Gwladys Primary in Bargoed, Garth
Primary in Builth Wells, and working with the Blaenau Gwent Young Writers, too.
There are still one or two days free, so if you'd like a visit, please get in
touch as soon as possible (see
Contacts page).
My next visit after that will be at the end of
September/beginning of October, and if you'd like a visit then, once again,
please get in touch as soon as possible.
Just in case there are still some schools who
aren’t aware ~ my visits are subsidised by the Academi Writers on Tour
scheme, usually at a rate of 50%.
