For 7-11
year olds, (or if you are really old but have a younger
brother or sister) "Sion and the Bargain Bee"
is a picture book illustrated by the fantastic Jac Jones
(he draws brilliant giants). The book is about a boy named Sion. He and his Mum have run out of money because Sion (who specialises in being idle) has lost his job. So they have to sell their cows. Sound familiar? Well, Sion doesn't change the cows for beans ~ he strikes a bargain which makes his Mam hysterical with fury. Oh, and there's a couple of giants and a rather large pig in the story, too "Sion and the Bargain Bee" is now available as a play, too! |
| I'm really pleased about this book, partly because it is based on a very real person, and secondly because it is the first of all my books to be published both in English and in Welsh. The Welsh version was launched at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Lampeter in 1999. "Two Left Feet" is a big picture book, amazingly illustrated by Graham Howells, and tells the story of Bryn, who has a problem walking and has to use a frame with wheels. His Dad teases him, and says he has "two left feet". But no one notices his two left feet; everyone is too busy enjoying his great big grin! Then, a visit to Raglan Castle sets a challenge for Bryn ~ and for Owain, his class-mate. |

My second book to be published both in English and Welsh is "The Caterpillar that Couldn't"/"Dawnsio Dilwyn Lindysyn". Fran Evans' gorgeous illustrations ensure that this book will appeal to adults and children alike. Carwyn the Caterpillar is bored with living in a tree. His friend Owl suggests that, if he eats his way to the end of a branch, he might find something to interest him...
